Year 3

Welcome to Year 3!

Year Three is part of the ‘Lower Phase’ in our school. Mrs Healy and Mrs Kavanagh-Byrne are the phase leaders and their role is to support the staff, children and families. If you have any questions, concerns or positive feedback then we would love to hear from you.

The staff in Year 3 are:

Class 12 – Miss Flynn (Class Teacher) and Miss Elward (HLTA)

Class 13 – Mr Kirby (Class Teacher) and Miss Fellows (LSA)

Class 14 – Miss Ingram (Class Teacher) and Miss Cook (LSA)

Moving from Year 2 to Year 3 is a huge change and a big step but it is also an exciting time! The children will be immersed into our Year 3 topics: Meet the Greeks, Food Glorious Food and Across the Ages. These topics offer fantastic learning opportunities such as a brilliant, outdoor learning trip to Bishop's Wood and a science-based visit from ‘The Animal Experience’. Children also start learning French and take swimming lessons! Comme c'est excitant!

As well as the great academic opportunities, Year 3 is all about encouraging the children to become increasingly independent and confident. As part of this move up into KS2, we expect children to come into school by themselves, walking from the gate to their classroom in the morning, and walking to the gate from their classroom at the end of the day. Homework is now also set on a weekly basis, rather than every other week. The children also move to the ‘big playground’ which can seem a little daunting initially however they are well supported through our peer-based leadership teams, sports leaders and anti-bullying ambassadors.  The children in Key Stage 2 no longer receive free fruit so they are encouraged to bring in a piece of fruit or vegetables to eat at playtime.

The Year 3 team look forward to welcoming your child and working with you to ensure your child has a happy and successful year. If there are ever any questions that you need to discuss with your child’s class teacher, please do not hesitate to contact us via Seesaw.
