Welcome to Year 3!
Year Three is part of the ‘Lower Phase’ in our school. Miss Isherwood is the phase leader for Year 3 and her role is to support the staff, children and families. If you have any questions, concerns or positive feedback then we would love to hear from you.
The staff in Year 3 are:
Class 12 – Miss Flynn (Class Teacher) and Mrs Middleton (LSA)
Class 13 – Mr Reynolds (Class Teacher) and Miss Coope (LSA)
Class 14 – Miss Earle (Class Teacher) and Miss Pargeter (LSA)
Moving from Year 2 to Year 3 is a huge change and a big step but it is also an exciting time! The children will be immersed into our Year 3 topics: Meet the Greeks, The Great British Bake Off and Across the Ages. These topics offer fantastic learning opportunities such as a brilliant outdoor learning trip to Bishop's Wood. Children also start learning French and taking swimming lessons! Comme c'est excitant!
As well as the great academic opportunities, Year 3 is all about encouraging the children to become increasingly independent and confident. As part of this move up into KS2, we expect children to come into school by themselves, walking from the gate to their classroom in the morning, and walking to the gate from their classroom at the end of the day. Homework is now also set on a weekly basis, rather than every other week. The children also move to the Key Stage 2 playground which can seem a little daunting initially, however they are well supported through our peer-based leadership teams, sports leaders and anti-bullying ambassadors. The children in Key Stage 2 no longer receive free fruit so they are encouraged to bring in fruit or vegetables to eat at playtime.
The Year 3 team look forward to welcoming your child and working with you to ensure your child has a happy and successful year. If there are ever any questions that you need to discuss with your child’s class teacher, please do not hesitate to contact us via Seesaw.
